Optimising male fertility after weight loss surgery
Infertility is on the increase, with almost half the cases linked to the male partner.

Obesity can affect fertility in a number of ways – hormonally, physically and psychologically. This is why losing weight is commonly recommended in fertility treatment.

Weight loss helps to improve the quality of your sex-life and increases levels of male reproductive hormones.
However weight loss surgery can result in nutrient deficiencies, which affect your ability to produce healthy sperm – a crucial piece of the fertility 'jigsaw'. Your recommended vitamin and mineral supplements, as well as the quality of your diet, can make a difference to your sperm health and your ability to start a family.
Menu plans
Please go to the recipe and menus tab for breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas. These meals have been designed to provide nutrients you may be deficient in post surgery that affect fertility. They also include foods that may boost your sperm health. The advice given on this site should mirror the eating and supplementation advice provided by your bariatric dietitian. Please do not make any changes to your diet or supplements without checking with your GP or bariatric team first.
